All of this year’s major phone releases have now been seen, so the next releases can be expected at least until February 2020. However, now is the cheapest time to buy a new phone, as many models under the age of one are in for a brisk discount on Black Friday.
The world of smartphones is generally an exciting time. After a few years of silence, there are actually three major trends on the market: full bezel displays, folding displays, and 5G. All of the above have already been implemented, but they will become more common first in flagship models and later in the lower price ranges.
Because users have different needs, we’ve added more than flagship models to the list. However, if you are looking for a purely budget phone, we recommend checking out our list of the best value phones.
We’ve thoroughly tested all phones in our list and ranked them based on things like features, display, battery life, design, and camera. Of course, the success of a phone is also influenced by its value for money.
Best phones at a glance:
Samsung Galaxy S10 / S10 Plus
Huawei P30 Pro
iPhone 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus
OnePlus 7T Pro
Samsung Galaxy Note 10
1. Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus
The best phone on the market
Release Date: March 2019 | Weight: 175 g | Dimensions: 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8 mm | Operating system: Android 9 | Display: 6.4 inches Resolution: 1440 x 3040 | Processor: Exynos 9820 | RAM: 8 or 12 GB | Storage: 128 GB or 1 TB | Battery: 4,100 mAh | Rear camera: 12 MP + 12 MP + 16 MP | Front camera: 10 MP + 8 Camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus was released early in 2019, but it still offers the strongest value for money on the market.
The phone’s 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display is by far the best on the market. It has excellent color reproduction and excellent dynamics. It offers the best viewing experience you can currently get from your phone.
The battery life of the S10 Plus is parental to the S9 Plus thanks to the larger 4,100 mAh battery. At bedtime, more than 10 percent of the battery is easily left. The phone also features Samsung’s new reverse wireless charging, which allows the Galaxy S10 Plus to charge other phones and accessories that support the generic Qi charging standard.
The Galaxy S10 Plus triple camera is one of the best in its class. Its technology is partly based on the previous S9 series, but more features and shooting modes have been added to the camera. The combination of a standard lens, a telephoto lens, and a wide-angle lens is a functional tool kit for a variety of shooting situations.
At a glance: The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus combines virtually all the best features of the smartphone world and offers them at a lower price than its main competitor Apple. Its entirety offers a tough challenge for all phones launched in 2019.
2. Huawei P30 Pro
An impressive camera phone with good value for money
Release Date: March 2019 | Weight: 192 g | Dimensions: 158 x 73.4 x 8.4 mm | Operating system: Android 9 | Display: 6.47 inches Resolution: 1440 x 3040 | Processor: Kirin 980 | RAM: 8 GB | Storage: 128 or 256 GB | Battery: 4200 mAh | Rear cameras: 40 MP wide + 20 MP ultra-wide + 8 MP telephoto + ToF camera | Front camera: 32 MP
Huawei’s slogan P30 Pro has a “new dimension in photography” and the claim is not overstated. In particular, the P30 Pro mutes with its incredible zoom feature, which is completely unprecedented in phones. However, the phone is more than just a camera phone – a complete bloody alternative for Samsung and Apple.
The biggest weakness of the P30 Pro is the Full HD resolution of the display, which lags behind all of its biggest competitors. Many manufacturers are already using QHD displays and Sony has launched up to 4K resolution on the Xperia 1. Still, the screen is by no means bad: it provides a bright, clear and colorful viewing experience. The rounded design of the screen reminds me of the Galaxy S10 series, but by the way, there is still a slot at the top of the screen.
Excellent battery life is one of the P30 Pro’s neglected innovations. It has a staggering 4,200 mAh battery that lasted one and a half days in our tough test run and lighter for up to two days. Like Samsung, the phone is capable of charging other devices wirelessly and has a large battery capacity to share. While the P30 Protak is capable of wireless charging, its fast instant charging is so fast that you can hardly wait for its wireless charging. You can charge the battery from scratch to 70 percent in just half an hour.
The P30 Pro’s biggest selling point is its exceptionally convincing camera. Featuring four different cameras (40 MP basic lens, 20 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 8 MP telephoto lens, and ToF camera), you can achieve unbelievably well-zoomed images and low-light conditions. The camera has a 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid and up to 50x digital zoom. The most convincing, though, is that even at maximum zoom, hands-free shooting is easy thanks to excellent image stabilization. The front has a more standard 32-megapixel front camera.
Brief summary: The Huawei P30 Pro knocks so close to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus that choosing between them starts to be a matter of part. The P30 Pro has a better camera and battery life than Samsung but loses its display to the Galaxy S10 Plus. However, Huawei may be a more sensible option for many consumers, as the phone in Finland is as much as $ 200 cheaper than Samsung’s flagship model.
3. iPhone 11 Pro Max
The number one choice for an Apple power user
Release Date: September 2019 | Weight: 226 g | Dimensions: 158 x 77.8 x 8.1 mm | Operating System: iOS 13 | Screen Size: 6.5 inches Resolution: 1242 x 2888 | System Circuit: A13 Bionic | RAM: 4 GB | Storage: 64/256/512 GB | Battery: 3500 mAh | Rear Cameras: 12 MP + 12 MP + 12 MP | Front camera: 12 MP
iPhone 11 Pro Max is Apple’s finest and largest phone released by Apple in 2019. It also has all the latest components and features of the company.
The model is expensive even by Apple’s standards, but with its excellent display, high-end cameras and the most powerful system on the market, it also offers value for money. However, the design has remained quite the same.
The 6.5-inch OLED display is excellent. It offers accurate color reproduction, sharp details, and enough screen space to enjoy videos and games.
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is simply the best battery we’ve seen on iPhone. Its duration is not yet at the level of the best Android rivals, but the phone can easily survive a tougher day.
The Pro Max triple camera is excellent. New camera technology has significantly improved the night vision in particular, which, when successful, is incredibly good. Video shooting is still at the best level in the market.
In a nutshell: If your hands and wallet stretch to the steep price tag and large outer dimensions of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this is the perfect choice for Apple device lovers.
4. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus
Luxury phone with a touch pen
Release Date: August 2019 | Weight: 196 g | Dimensions: 162.3 x 77.2 x 7.9mm | Operating system: Android 9 | Screen Size: 6.8 inches System Circuit: Exynos 9825 | RAM: 12 GB | Storage: 256 or 512 GB | Battery: 4,300 mAh | Rear Camera: 12 MP + 12 MP + 16 MP + ToF Depth Camera | Front camera: 10 MP
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus is one of the largest (and most expensive) phones on the market, but it has also been packed with a compelling set of premium features.
The phone screen is, frankly, huge. Thanks to its compact Infinity-O camera hole, the screen is almost borderless and the viewer is easily immersed in video content.
The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus surprised us positively as it was virtually impossible to run out of power in one day. Rapid recharging technology lets you charge your phone’s huge battery quickly.
The Galaxy Note 10 Plus camera is not the best in its price range, but it still offers a great user experience and is capable of taking great pictures.
In a nutshell: Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus is a great device, but its target audience is quite limited. It is, therefore, best suited for users who are looking for a great phone and are willing to pay for the expensive slip. The Galaxy S10 Plus is probably better suited to most users, but the Note 10 Plus is still a great phone.
5. iPhone 11
The best iPhone for most users
Release Date: September 2019 | Weight: 194 g | Dimensions: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm | Operating System: iOS 13 | Display: 6.1 inches Resolution: 828 × 1,792 | System Circuit: Apple A13 Bionic | RAM: 4 GB | Storage: 64/128/256 GB | Battery: 3,110 mAh | Rear camera: 12 MP + 12 MP | Front camera: 12 MP
We believe that iPhone 11 will be Apple’s most attractive phone in 2019. It is a good combination of top features, and the price does not escalate to astronomical readings like the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.
While the display on the iPhone 11 is not one of the best in the collection, it still offers a great viewing experience. Its size is perfect for watching videos.
The battery life of the iPhone 11 is good but not excellent. It’s easy to get through your phone from morning to night, but the battery runs out before the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
iPhone 11 can expect the same performance as the iPhone XR. So if you want the best camera for your iPhone, we recommend you turn to the iPhone 11 Pro or Pro Max. Even the most affordable model is capable of a convincing performance.
In a nutshell: iPhone 11 offers Apple’s familiar solid quality at a bargain price. Most users may already be doing well with the cheapest option of the new iPhone lineup, but true power users should also check out the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.
6. Huawei P30
Best camera phone in its price range
Release Date: March 2019 | Weight: 165 g | Dimensions: 149.1 x 71.4 x 7.6 mm | Operating system: Android 9 | Screen Size: 6.1 inches Resolution: 1080 x 2340 | Processor: Kirin 980 | RAM: 8 GB | Storage: 128 GB | Battery: 3650 mAh | Rear camera: 40 MP + 16 MP + 8 MP | Front camera: 32 MP
The Huawei P30 is perhaps the best affordable camera phone on the market. Its advanced triple camera achieves up to 30x zoom and overall picture quality is far better than you would expect in this price range. However, in its other features, it is not much different from other mid-priced Android phones.
The 6.1-inch P30 is much easier to use with one hand than the larger P30 Pro. The phone’s Full HD + resolution is perfect for most users and has a great color rendering.
Like other Huawei phones, the P30 has excellent battery life. In our own tests, the phone survived without exception for about a day and a half, but will certainly survive two days with lighter use.
The P30’s triple camera is not quite as good as the P30 Pro’s four-camera, but it still offers a great shooting experience with 3x optical zoom and as much as 30x digital zoom. Huawei is still a leader in twilight photography, as the P30 manages to take decent shots in near-dark conditions. Image quality is generally better than any other competitor at the same price.
In a nutshell: Huawei’s mid-range design delivers powerful power, the much-needed headphone jack, and one-handed design. Above all, however, it is great for camera phone users who don’t want to shell out a thousand euros on their device.
7. Samsung Galaxy Note 10
More compact with a stylus
Release Date: August 2019 | Weight: 168 g | Dimensions: 151 x 71.8 x 7.9 mm | Operating system: Android 9 | Screen Size: 6.3 inches Resolution: 1080 x 2280 | System Circuit: Exynos 9825 | RAM: 8 GB | Storage: 256 GB | Battery: 3500 mAh | Rear camera: 12 MP + 12 MP + 16 MP | Front camera: 10 MP
Samsung this year has two different versions of the stylus of its renowned flagship model. Note 10 has slightly weaker features than its sister model Note 10 Plus but still offers a great user experience. It is better suited to the Plus model, especially for users with smaller hands.
Even though this is a Galaxy Note series phone, it may not have the same screen size as you would think. The 6.3-inch screen fits comfortably even in a smaller handheld, and the Infinity-O camera hole doesn’t interfere much with the viewing experience.
The Galaxy Note 10’s battery suffers a bit from its more compact size, as it may sometimes run out of power before the end of the day. However, battery life is good enough for the end-user.
The Galaxy Note 10’s camera is just as good as you’d expect from Samsung’s flagship model. It is not the best on the market, but still able to produce excellent results.
The Galaxy Note 10 is not as advanced as Note 10 Plus, but if you want a compact phone with a touch pen and comprehensive features, it is worth considering the option.
8. OnePlus 7T
Affordable flagship with an awesome display
Release Date: October 2019 | Weight: 190 g | Dimensions: 160.9 x 74.4 x 8.1 mm | Operating system: Android 10 | Screen Size: 6.55 inches Resolution: 1080 x 2400 | System Circuit: Snapdragon 855+ | RAM: 8 GB | Storage: 128 GB | Battery: 3,800 mAh | Rear camera: 48 MP + 16 MP + 12 MP | Front camera: 16 MP
If you are looking for an affordable flagship model that offers most of the features of the more expensive top models, the OnePlus 7T is the best option on the market.
One of the highlights of the 7T is its sleek 90Hz display, which makes the phone a truly enjoyable experience. It also reaches higher prices in terms of color and accuracy.
OnePlus 7T battery is easy to use throughout the day, even in heavier use. The battery charges extremely fast with the included quick charger, as it takes just an hour to fully charge from scratch.
The OnePlus 7T’s camera is a clear improvement over the OnePlus 7. It still does not outperform its best competitors, but still takes stylish shots, especially in bright lighting.
In a nutshell: The OnePlus 7T is a much bigger upgrade than the company’s previously released T-models. If you are looking for a compact yet efficient phone at a reasonable price, this is probably your best bet.
9. Honor 20
Excellent value for money
Released: May 2019 (Arrived for sale only in August 2019) | Weight: 174 g | Dimensions: 154.3 x 74 x 7.9 mm | Operating System: Android 9 (Magic 2.1) | Display: 6.26 inches Resolution: 1080 x 2340 | Processor: Kirin 980 | RAM: 6 GB | Storage: 128 GB | Battery: 3,750 mAh | Rear camera: 48 MP + 16 MP + 2 + 2 MP | Front camera: 32 MP
Honor 20 ended up selling to Finland through difficulties, but it was worth the wait. At just $ 399, the phone offers incredibly good value for money, and its camera washes slightly more expensive phones.
Honor 20’s biggest selling point is its excellent value for money. For a fraction of the cost, the phone offers a quality quad camera, powerful components, and excellent battery life. Its biggest weakness is the Huawei Magic UI, but it is also customizable to the user’s taste.
If you are looking for a phone with powerful components and a high-quality camera that can be comfortably used with one hand, the Honor 20 is definitely a phone to consider. Its price range also works well for younger family members.
